Demolition guard fabricator invests in high quality mandrel benderStafford-based Cabcare Products Ltd, a specialist in anti-vandal and demolition guards for the earth-moving sector, have recently completed the installation of a 60mm capacity mandrel bender supplied by Coventry-based AMOB UK Ltd. The purchase of this machine corresponds with the need to replace two ageing single-axis rotary draw benders.

Adrian Grew, technical sales director of Cabcare Products, said: “With the old bending process, we had a lot of material that needed to be cut-off-to-length and we are already realising savings. With the AMBO MDH-60 CN2 model, the CNC control now actuates not only bend angle operation, but also the CNC tube rotation. The main improvement is the accuracy of the bent tube which is not only providing time savings, but also significant material cost savings.”

He added: “The complexity for the design has improved and the look of the finished product, too. With the machine being two-axis controlled, no re-work is required before welding, and the designs can be more complex, allowing for an overall better finished product.”

Tom Wood, managing director of AMOB UK, said: “We are delighted that Cabcare has chosen to invest in an AMOB tube-bending machine. Additionally, We hope that this is the start of much more to come. It has been great to assist Cabcare in streamlining their production, and also improving their repeatability.”

Installed in late 2022, Cabcare’s new tube-bending machine will now improve its ability to accurately bend 33.7mm box section handrails. The company produces a wide range of handrails to provide protection to drivers while working on the back of excavators. The rails are designed to bolt onto existing fixings, avoiding the need to drill or weld the machine. Traditionally handrails have been very large solid structures bolted and welded onto the machine structure. However, Cabcare handrail systems are designed to be lighter and more flexible, reducing and preventing cracking issues that often develop on larger structures.

Robert Manners, AMOB UK’s dedicated service and start-up manager, said: “This new machine will hugely improve Cabcare’s productivity, and most importantly for them, their repeatability.”
