Starrag to ‘sprinkle some magic’ at MACH 2024The impressive new Starrag STC1250-HD defines heavy duty machining

Birmingham-based Starrag will debut a host of new technologies at MACH 2024 that are yet to be seen in the UK (Hall 18, Stand 320). With so many machines receiving world premieres at EMO last September, the Starrag stand at the UK show will be crammed full of new innovations — everything from new machine technologies to virtual showroom platforms, alongside a magician performing tricks.

From the Bumotec product range, Starrag will present its latest turn/mill product lines that can now be viewed in the company’s new virtual showroom here. Taking centre stage will be the new Bumotec 191neo, a complete machining solution that enables manufacturers to produce parts from bars or blanks; it features new-generation linear motors, seven axes and three spindles with five simultaneous axes and up to 90 tools. Designed for stable production with minimum operator intervention, the 191neo comes with a new MMI touchscreen control with a Windows-based PC and a host of additional features and automation solutions.

Meanwhile, the new Heckert H Compact twin-pallet horizontal machining centre (HMC) will also be making its MACH debut. With this new machine, Starrag delivers the benefits of an HMC within a compact footprint — it also features a trunnion table that provides a high-speed/rigid simultaneous five-axis capability. It can also incorporate a high-speed table for turning like the Heckert T Series of five-axis machining centres.

Designed with a monobloc mineral cast material base that is extremely vibration-absorbent and stiff, the machine has been designed for extremely high material-removal rates. The machine also has a complete range of spindles available from a 30,000rev/min spindle for cutting aluminium through to high-torque or geared spindles for machining titanium, as well as quill spindles for extended reach.

The STC1250 HD can accommodate a 1.25 x 1.25m pallet with a large work envelope for workpiece loads up to 5,000kg. This is complemented by X, Y and Z-axis travels of 2.2 x 1.5 x 2.1m with a swing diameter of 2.2m. The STC1250 HD is capable of reducing cycle times from Starrag’s current benchmark by a further 30% on large titanium and Inconel parts for the aerospace and power generation industries — making it the new standard for heavy-duty machining.

Completing the line-up at MACH will be the new Droop+Rein FOGS HD. Designed for large components, it is a six-axis overhead gantry-type machining centre available in a variety of dimensions with traverse paths from 3-31m in the X axis, 3-6m in the Y axis and 1.5-2.5m in the Z axis. The FOGS HD is an efficient 50-100kW workhorse that delivers unsurpassed precision with fast and dynamic axes movement, as well as a high torque range from 2,400-7,500Nm.
