#india #rail #international #metro @metrotrains With the first phase of India’s new Hyderabad Metro expected to be operational in March 2015, L&T Hyderabad Metro Rail Ltd has put on display the first rail coach that it has received from the Hyundai-Rotem consortium. Built in Korea, this coach is part of the initial 157-coach order for the 72km elevated Metro. It was unveiled by the State Chief Minister, N Kiran Kumar Reddy, in the presence of officials of L&T and metro rail officials.
The Metro will be driverless, run from a central control system. Each air-conditioned coach will have seats for about 330 people, so a train of six coaches is expected to carry about 2,000 passengers. The top speed will be 80kph, but the average speed is likely to be 38-40kph.
Initially, it is proposed to run each train with three coaches; this will later be increased to six. The gap between the trains will be 90sec, and all the trains will have CCTV cameras inside and outside. Mobile and laptop charging sockets will be provided.
