@Ford #ford #car #automotive #engineering Ford Motor Co has officially opened its first authorised dealership in Myanmar/Burma. The US automotive maker said that, since the ‘soft launch’ two months ago, thousands of customers have visited the showroom. Regional manager David Westerman said: “Myanmar’s growing demand for cars excites us.” He said that huge import taxes and international sanctions aimed at the previous regime meant that vehicles were too expensive for most people, but recent changes have seen “a sharp increase in the demand for four wheels”.
Other car makers are also looking to set up manufacturing facilities in the country. Nissan Motor recently unveiled plans to launch production in Myanmar/Burma with its Malaysian partner Tan Chong Motors, as did Suzuki.
