Work placement for engineering student

Work placement for engineering student Bournemouth University student Kamran Khan — currently studying for an honours degree in design engineering — is settling into his work-placement role as a CAD engineer at geared-motor manufacturer Parvalux (www.parvalux.com). He first discovered the company when a course project required him to incorporate one of its motors in the design for a power-assisted e-bike.

“That is what sparked my interest in electric motors and their potential when used in applications of the future. You learn twice as fast by putting concepts into practice as you do studying them. I’ve taken concepts that I’ve heard in a lecture and applied them practically while working at Parvalux. It makes a lot more sense now than before.”

The product design and development team at Parvalux consists of 17 engineers, all educated to at least degree level. They use the latest software and test facilities to provide a short ‘time to market’ for bespoke solutions — plus modifications from the existing product range.

Technical director Martin Mathias says he is delighted with the way Kamran has settled into his one-year placement with the team. “I’ve been very impressed by the technical knowledge that Kamran has demonstrated in his time working with the team. At Parvalux, we’ve benefitted from offering placements to ambitious university students, as they provide a dedicated resource for a project. They arrive with fresh ideas from their courses, giving new energy to an experienced team.”
