Solihull-based Tooling International Ltd (TIL) is a leading manufacturer of recess tooling for the world’s fastener-producing industry. Products manufactured at the company’s design and manufacturing facility include recess tooling for a variety of applications, including Torx and Torx Plus, tamper-resistant pins and punches, aerospace recess punches, and both Philips and Pozidrive.

To ensure continued product quality, regular investment is made in production equipment, which includes the recent purchase of an Anca GX7 tool and cutter grinder from Coventry-based Anca (UK) Ltd (www.anca.com).

TIL deputy managing director Justin Stanley says: “As our products are manufactured to exacting dimensional specifications and have demanding surface finish requirements, the accuracy and quality of our grinding process is of paramount importance to us. We put together a list of the features and capabilities that we needed from a new tool and cutter grinder and had demonstrations of several suitable machines, but it became clear that the Anca GX7 represented the best overall package. Our new Anca machine is now fully utilised on our two-shift operating system, and its speed and accuracy mean that it can perform efficient and precise grinding routines across a wide range of our recess tooling.”

The GX7 has been designed with the operator in mind, and its grinding wheels, coolant pipes and headstock are easily accessed. Furthermore, easy-to-change coolant manifolds, which can be set up off the machine to suit each wheel pack, help to reduce preparation time to a minimum. Other features include a direct-drive bi-directional spindle — with wheel packs at both ends — that allows up to eight wheels to be used in one set-up.
