Foxconn Technology Co Ltd, which manufactures smart-phones for Apple Inc, has said that the iPhone 6 could be one of the first devices manufactured by its new range of robots.
Speaking at a recent shareholder meeting, executives from the Chinese manufacturer said that it is planning to deploy 10,000 robots, each costing $20,000-25,000. On average, they will be able to produce 300,000 smart-phones each year, the management said. The robots, known as Foxbots, are claimed to be in the last stage of testing.
Analysts believe that the company could save a significant amount of money, as it has over 1.2 million workers at its multiple factories. In addition to saving money on over-time, production line stoppages and housing, the magazine Apple Insider says that using the new robots could also solve its continual problems with ‘worker rights’ violations. The phone is expected to be launched in September.
