To support the continued growth of the precision machining operations at its main Bowburn site, Altec Engineering Ltd (
www.alteceng.co.uk) has announced the launch of a new specialist coatings facility in Sedgefield, County Durham.
This has been established to help the company meet the increasing demand for finished components within the aerospace, oil and gas, and electronic sectors.
The company has invested in a wide range of equipment and processes, including vibratory trough finishing and shot blasting, to perform preliminary operations and generate the key-face to which surface coatings will bond.
At the new Sedgefield site, Altec will offer a range of surface-coating processes, including Alocrom 1200 (used for industrial work, electrical components and domestic applian-
ces) and SurTec 650 (which delivers excellent corrosion resistance and low electrical resistance).
SurTec 650 uses a non-toxic process that provides excellent bare corrosion protection with or without paint; it works extremely well on aluminium and is suitable as a pre-treatment prior to lacquering or coating.
Altec director Paul Lackenby said: “This new dedicated facility allows us to meet increasing demand, and it provides the capacity needed to support the continued growth of
our CNC precision-machining operations.”
The new coating facility follows recent investments of £600,000 in machine tools and a £1.5 million extension to the firm’s Bowburn site that is due for completion this autumn.
