Polish nuclear power plant contract for WYGLeeds-based WYG has been appointed as a partner in a project to develop Poland’s first nuclear power plant. The engineering consultancy’s contract is worth a minimum of £6.2 million.

Amec is leading the consortium after been named as preferred bidder by PGE EJ1, which is a subsidiary of Poland’s state-controlled Polska Grupa Energetyczna.

Paul Hamer, the chief executive of WYG, said: “I am delighted that WYG has been selected to work together with Amec to deliver one of the most significant projects in Poland’s infrastructure programme.

“We will be drawing on our experience built up over more than 20 years of working on nuclear sites in the UK to help the Polish government achieve its long-term objectives.

“The appointment is also a major advance in our aim of growing a significant presence in the wider energy sector through our model of collaborative working with major blue-chip partners.”
