ANCA grinder for medical-equipment firmOver the past three decades, Cirencester-based Corin Medical Ltd has developed into a global leader in the field of orthopaedic innovation.

To keep up with the growing demand for its portfolio of hip, knee and extremity implant solutions, the company recently purchased an ANCA TX7+ grinder (www.anca.com).

Manufacturing director Andy Edwards said: “Research into new materials enables us to develop products based on the very best implant technology, designed for their longevity and performance.

“For our research to translate into efficient production, we have to invest in the best available machine tools. We have just purchased our second ANCA grinder — the TX7+ — which offers the most complete range of orthopaedic-specific accessories, and the ANCAM NX orthopaedic software allows us to customise the machine to our specific needs.”

The TX7+ machine has established itself as a benchmark in the world of CNC grinding; it has the flexibility to accommodate a range of medical components, and it encompasses a variety of implants and instruments. It also boasts exceptional dampening properties and machine rigidity, leading to superior surface finish on ground parts.

Furthermore, the grinding of medical-grade alloys presents various challenges for meeting dimensional and surface-finish requirements on the completed part, but the flexibility built into the software, combined with a wide range of tooling options, ensures solutions to even the toughest challenges.

The 3,000rev/min headstock dresser, along with the optional dedicated dresser unit with quick-change HSK arbours ordered by Corin Medical, enables the machine to perform all dressing tasks when grinding difficult materials such as medical alloys.

Mr Edwards added: “After a short training session to help familiarise our operators with the TX7+ machine’s enhanced features, the new grinder is now delivering the promised output volumes across our three-shift operation and consistently producing the highest standards of work.”
