East Midlands Trains (EMT) has arranged a public celebration for 23 September at its Etches Park depot to mark 175 years of railways in Derby (the Midland Counties Railway, linking Derby and Nottingham opened on 4 June 1839).
The famous Derby railway works opened in 1876; what is left is now owned and operated by Bombardier.
The exhibits booked for the event include the Derby-built HST Power Car prototype No 41001 and a Derby lightweight railcar (No 79900 Iris). The Western Region diesel No D1015 Western Champion (pictured) will also be exhibited.
Meanwhile, the Ivatt Diesel Recreation Society will be demonstrating another new-build locomotive project, the LMS Diesel No 10000 — the first BR diesel-electric locomotive.
