Die-casting firm expands within automotive sector

Die-casting firm expands within automotive sectorCoventry-based Sarginsons Industries has completed a £250,000 investment to transform it into a market leader in the production of lightweight components for the automotive industry.

Established more than 75 years ago, the company now counts Jaguar Land Rover, Caterpillar, Bosch, JCB, Aston Martin and Rotork among its clients.

In the last three years it has invested around £2.5 million in a full foundry-floor rebuild, allowing it to make efficiency improvements to its low-pressure casting capability.

It has also introduced large-scale low-pressure casting machines and installed four new melting furnaces and eight new holding furnaces, which have been part-funded by a grant from the European Regional Development Fund through the Coventry and Warwickshire Local Enterprise Partnership.

These machines will greatly reduce the firm’s energy consumption and improve the working environment for its employees, while significantly increasing its capacity.

Roy Sims, Sarginsons chief executive, said: “We have envisioned a plan to ensure that Sarginsons develops as a leading innovator in die casting and is fully capable of supporting our local and global manufacturers with specialist expertise in the delivery of complex components as the light-weighting revolution in vehicle production increases demand.

"There is an enormous push to replace heavier metals with lighter aluminium alloys, through the need to increase fuel efficiencies.”
