Plymouth is one of the worst-affected cities for slow peak-time broadband, ranking 10th in the league table of UK towns and cities with the biggest drop-off in internet speeds at the busiest times. That said, Plymouth’s Devon business rival Exeter tops the table with a 53% decline between 5am and the 9pm peak.
Plymouth suffers a 35% drop between its 20.3Mbps average speed at 5am and its 13.1Mbps speed some 16hr later, when Web surfers are out in force. Exeter also has the second-slowest peak-time broadband speed: at 9.9Mbps, it ties with Hull, with only Aberdeen worse off at 7.9Mbps.
Nationally, broadband speeds are fastest at 5am, averaging 18.1Mbps, but drop by over a fifth by 9pm, to 14.3 Mbps.
