Wind-energy projects in IndiaSuzlon Energy Ltd, an Indian manufacturer of wind turbines ranked as the fifth-largest supplier in the world, has announced plans to build new manufacturing plants in central India.

The factories will support 2,000MW of wind-farm orders that Suzlon expects to win in the state of Madhya Pradesh in the next five years.

These projects will “drive investments and create sustainable economic growth for the state,” the company said in a statement. Suzlon has installed more than 50% of the total wind capacity in Madhya Pradesh.

Chairman Tulsi Tanti said: “Madhya Pradesh has not only emerged as one of the fastest-growing states in the country, but is a power-surplus state as well, with close to 14,000MW of installed capacity.”

The Pune-based company has also announced that it intends to invest around $50 million in a 400MW turbine plant in Brazil by the end of 2015. At the end of March, the parent Suzlon Group’s order book was worth about $7.2 billion.

The group is currently working on what it describes as a business-revival strategy and is set to return to profit after completing its debt re-organisation programme by next March.
