ITN Productions has made a programme on the importance of manufacturing and engineering.
Commissioned by the Institution of Engineering and Technology, Working to Engineer a Better World is introduced by newsreader Natasha Kaplinsky and features the support offered by the Black Country Skills Factory — an organisation that has been hailed as leading the way in delivering skills training and support for the High Value Manufacturing (HVM) sector.
Filming took place at Kingswinford-based Carbex Ltd, which has been helped by the Black Country Skills Factory to take on an apprentice.
Nigel Houlston, a partner at Carbex, said: “We have a duty to encourage and train young people for the future of the manufacturing sector. We hope that this film will give a real picture of the modern manufacturing workplace and help to dispel myths regarding the sector.”
Paul Linton, chairman of the Black Country Skills Factory board, said: “We need to develop our education systems and training to ensure that our young people are at the cutting edge of technology across the manufacturing and engineering sector.”
