Chrysler has officially changed its nameMichigan-based Chrysler has officially changed its name to FCA US, reflecting its subsidiary status to Italian parent group Fiat Chrysler Automobiles.

The US automotive manufacturer was acquired in stages by Milan-based Fiat after emerging from a US government-backed bankruptcy, restructuring and bail-out process in June 2009.

The Italian group completed the acquisition in January of last year, making it the seventh-largest car maker in the world in terms of annual vehicle sales. Fiat officially adopted its new name Fiat Chrysler Automobiles in October, when it listed on the New York Stock Exchange.

Chrysler, which was founded by Walter Chrysler in 1925, employs more than 77,000 people world-wide, with 96% of them based in North America. It has 36 manufacturing sites — 23 in the USA, seven in Mexico and six in Canada.
