Skills Gateway launched in WalesThe Welsh Assembly government has launched a new service called the Skills Gateway to help businesses that want to improve their workforce’s skills and adults who need careers information support and advice.

Julie James, Deputy Minister for Skills and Technology, said: “The Skills Gateway will work towards bridging the skills gap in Wales, offering a seamless all-needs service. By using existing infrastructure, streamlining services and giving users access to additional services, it should make a significant difference to both businesses and job-seekers.”

She added that it is designed to improve the way employers access the skills help they need through a new Web site and a telephone help-line managed by Business Wales.

Scott Waddington, of the UK Commission for Employment and Skills, said: “I have no doubt that the new Skills Gateway will prove hugely supportive to Welsh businesses that have already shown themselves to be among the most open-minded in the UK when it comes to providing training opportunities for prospective and existing employees.”
