French rail manufacturer Alstom has won a contract worth more than 65 million euros from Delhi Metro Rail Corporation to deliver signalling, telecom and electrification systems for the new Kochi metro line in Kerala, India.
Under this new contract, Alstom will be responsible for the design, manufacture, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of its Urbalis 400 communication-based train control ‘solution’.
Dominique Pouliquen, vice-president of Alstom Transport Asia-Pacific, said: “These are the first contracts awarded to Alstom in India for telecom and electrification. Through our complete range of systems, we are well positioned to support metro project developments across India.”
The Kochi metro is expected to be completed in early 2016 and services are scheduled to start in March 2016.
In September 2014, Alstom also secured a contract worth 85 million euros for the delivery of 25 metro trains to Kochi Metro Rail.
They will be capable of carrying up to 15,000 passengers an hour in each direction on the 25.6km Kochi network, which has 22 stations.
