Following the success of the Schunk Rota THW-plus wedge-bar power chucks, Schunk Intec Ltd, Newport Pagnell (
www.gb.schunk.com), has transferred the principle of the fast jaw change that these feature to CNC lathes with short-stroke cylinders.
The universal Schunk Rota NCX power chuck can replace conventional lathe chucks without a quick-change jaw system and without any updating of the machine, thereby minimising set-up times and extending productive machine running time. A new set of jaws can be retrofitted to a repeat accuracy of 0.02mm within 60sec; moreover, Rota NCX is suitable for both finish machining and volume production.
Furthermore, to ensure operational safety, Rota NCX is equipped with a jaw-locking system and jaw-presence monitoring; and every type of standard top jaw with tongue and groove can be used as a top jaw. Rota NCX chucks are available in diameters of 165, 215, 260 and 315mm, with through-hole diameters of 53-106mm and jaw strokes of 3-6.3mm. Clamping forces range from 55 to 155kN, and the units can be used for clamping on both inner and outer diameters.
