Roger Evans, managing director of Llanelli-based Schaeffler (UK) Ltd (http://www.schaeffler.co.uk), has won a regional Manufacturing Champion Award in the EEF/Aldermore Future Manufacturing Awards. This celebrates the achievements of individuals who — through vision, dedication and hard work — have made a significant contribution to UK manufacturing.

Mr Evans, who will find out in April whether he has won the national title, says: “This award is testament to my team as much as me. It recognises the importance of people in the manufacturing sector and the difference they can make, and I am absolutely delighted to have won.”

The Schaeffler plant in Llanelli produces precision engine components, including general bearings and mechanical tappets for the automotive industry. Established in 1957, the plant employs about 250 people and takes on four new apprentices a year.
