Designed as a high-precision all-round solution for automated chuck-based grinding and the sharpening of tools, the Prismo 3 from Schunk Intec Ltd, Newport Pagnell (
www.gb.schunk.com), clamps shank diameters in the range
3-20mm directly without the use of intermediate sleeves or collet chucks, thereby reducing costs.
The repeat clamping accuracy is better than 5µm, and the run-out accuracy at an unclamped length of 45mm is better than 10µm; during the clamping process, the tool shank is automatically centred in the tool-holder. Furthermore, the contour of the chuck has been designed to ensure that grinding wheels can ‘run out’ unimpeded.
The X-axis position always remains the same, regardless of the tool diameter; this means that all clamping jaws remain in the same axial position, thereby allowing the unmanned grinding of a broad range of tool types round-the-clock, without re-programming the L1 measurement.
The chuck jaws are hard-coated for maximum durability; to eliminate any accumulation of dirt, the chuck is flushed with clean oil during the grinding operation. The Prismo 3 is compact (125 x 125mm) and compatible with grinding machines from all the major manufacturers.
