J&S to debut latest cylndrical grinder Leicester-based Jones & Shipman Hardinge Ltd (www.jonesshipman.com) will give a UK debut to its latest cylindrical grinder — the J&S Suprema 1000M. The company will also be demonstrating its high-specification UltraMat 1000 CNC surface grinder, a Kellenberger Kel-Vista UR 175/1000 universal cylindrical grinder, and the 524 Easy ‘Self Teach’ surface grinder (Hall 5 Stand 5368).

All four machines highlight the Hardinge Grinding Group’s capabilities across the grinding spectrum, from ultra-high-precision one-offs or tool-room machines to batch work and demanding high-volume production. The J&S Suprema 1000M numerically controlled cylindrical grinder incorporates several upgrades that contribute to greater productivity and flexibility while maintaining the core advantages of the J&S Easy programming system.

Upgrades made to the Fanuc Power Motion i-A control system provide increased on-line storage for dressing and grinding programs, with improved reaction times to further improve programming and set-up times. Increased wheel diameters on both the left- and right-hand external wheels result in longer wheel life and improved productivity by reducing the number of dresses required in the grinding cycles.

An optional increase in wheel-head power will also provide further improvements in productivity and shorten cycle times. Available in three grinding length capacities (650, 1,000 and 1,500mm), each Suprema has automatic dressing and grinding cycles, so they can be set quickly and then left unmanned.

Also on the stand will be the latest Jones & Shipman UltraMat 1000 CNC universal cylindrical grinder; this is available in grinding length capacities of 650 and 1,000mm, each with four wheel-head options. It has the latest Fanuc Oi-TD touch-screen control with a Windows embedded system, offering all the advantages of a CNC system but without the complexity. A range of options allows the user to tailor the machine precisely to the project in hand.

Meanwhile, the Kellenberger Kel-Vista UR 175/1000 is described by J&S as an ‘economical/universal’ CNC grinding machine that can accommodate operations ranging from complex die and mould manufacture to small- and medium-batch production work.
