High-power high-speed fibre lasers

bcm new equipmentRugby-based MSS Lasers (www.mss-lasers.com) launched a new range of fibre lasers at an Open House event last month.

Well known for its expertise in laser and nitrogen generation technology, the company is expanding its capabilities by offering the Eagle range of bAsic, eVision and iNspire fibre lasers (the last being for mass production).

These advanced machines feature linear drives on all three axes, plus a low-inertia carbon-fibre transverse bridge that allows them to accelerate at up to 6g and achieve cutting speeds in excess of 100m/min. Moreover, to make the most of these high cutting speeds, table change times are less than 10sec, minimising idle time between sheets.

For maximum versatility customers can choose laser powers from 2 to 6kW, which makes the Eagle machines some of the highest-power fibre lasers currently available and suitable for the fast cutting of thick material. The rigidity of the carbon-fibre bridge ensures high levels of accuracy, while a polymer concrete frame minimises vibration and heat-related deflection of the machine geometry.

The Eagle range comes in bed sizes up to 6 x 2.5m, which accommodates the largest sheets and supports efficient nesting for optimised material utilisation. Furthermore, the fibre laser eliminates the use of CO2 gas and many of the components — such as the turbine, mirrors and bellows — that are required by CO2 machines, reducing maintenance requirements and the overall footprint of the machine.

Power consumption is also around 70% less than that of a CO2 machine. Further advantages of the fibre laser include rapid start-up and shut-down of the machine, plus the ability to cut reflective materials such as copper and brass, as well as plastic-coated materials, thanks to the frequency range of the fibre laser.

Sales director Neil Jackson says: “This is a very exciting opportunity for MSS Lasers. We selected the Eagle range of fibre lasers after extensive research. They use very-high-quality components, and their uncompromising build specifications deliver high-level performance.”
