At the cutting edge

At the cutting edge Sheffield-based WNT (UK) Ltd (www.wnt.de/en-en) says the company’s attendance at MACH 2014 was one of its best ever, with over 1,200 pre-registered visitors to the stand during the week-long exhibition. Moreover, pre-registered visitors who purchased tooling at the event were able to double their spending power — and get a free Mitutoyo digital vernier caliper.

WNT (UK) managing director Tony Pennington said: “Over 420 customers took advantage of the offer during the week, ordering more than £100,000 of tooling at the exhibition. Just as important as these orders was the high level of interest in how we can work with customers to provide cost-effective cutting-tool and work-holding solutions. What was particularly good to see was the number of applications that customers wanted to discuss with us on the stand. It all bodes very well for the continued positive outlook for UK manufacturing.”

Highlights on WNT’s stand included the new HCN 5235 and HCF5240 grades that have been developed for the high-performance milling of heat-resistant alloys and titanium. The new grades are said to be generating milling cycle time savings of 50% or more — plus increased tool life. Extended insert life is also a feature of the new HCR1135 inserts for steel turning, with gains of up to 200% with intermittent or difficult-to-machine surfaces.
