The new SX3 Mill Drill DIGI is the latest machine in the Engineer series from Axminster Tool Centre Ltd, Axminster (
www.axminster.co.uk).
It features a digital read-out system for the table position, a tilting head, digital spindle speed control, down-feed read-outs and a thread-tapping facility. Suitable for the experienced model engineer or small engineering workshops, Engineer-series machines are used for courses at the Axminster Skill Centre.
The rectangular cast-iron column is equipped with dovetail guides for the milling head and ensures accurate chatter-free performance; moreover, the vertical feed control wheel is located on the base, where it is readily to hand. On the SX3-DIGI, coarse adjustment is made with this control wheel, while the fine feed is carried out via a wheel on the head itself. The scales are graduated in steps of 0.02mm.
The machine is supplied with a 1-13mm drill chuck and an ER32 collet holder; there is a 3MT interface in the quill for fitting milling chucks or other items of tooling.
The accessories available are a cabinet stand (with shelves and a lockable door) and a kit of clamps, nuts, studs and spacers for clamping the work to the table.
