When Gadget Show presenter Jason Bradbury decided to buy an original DeLorean sports car and convert it into a replica of the car from Back to the Future, he turned to Staffordshire-based KMF (Precision Sheet Metal) (
www.kmf.co.uk).
Having previously compered KMF’s Young Engineer of the Year awards, Jason knew that he could rely on the company to come up with the engineering skills and enthusiasm to deliver the project on time and as close to the original car from the movie, including its very own Flux Capacitor.
KMF purchasing director Terry Stanway said: “We are accustomed to working to time constraints, but this is the first time we have been called on to make a time machine. The project called for a bit of imagination, as well as the skills of the people involved. Our team had to locate and order items that they have never ordered before — and probably never will again — to make the car as authentic as possible. However, it was a pleasure to be able to help Jason realise this dream.”
The KMF team were up against a tight deadline because the car was due to be unveiled during the Gadget Show Live event, which was held at the NEC last month. “I suppose we did have a bit of leeway on delivery. If we had slipped behind schedule, we could have just run the car up to 88mph and let the technology do the rest.”
