Walter Ewag UK (a member of the United Grinding Group) has opened its new headquarters in Warwick (
www.walter-machines.com).
The official opening ceremony — performed by Europe and South America sales director Achim Schurius — coincided with a two-day Open House where class-leading tool manufacturing and measuring technologies were on view, including the UK debut of the Walter Helicheck 3D measuring machine.
Designed for the laser scanning and digitising of tools and production parts (to create models that can be saved, processed, analysed and measured), this machine uses Tool Analyser software to lay horizontal, vertical and freely
selectable cutting planes at any position on the three-dimensional model.
These are automatically analysed and the resulting parameters made available for use. New ‘matcher’ software enables the user to create a colour-coded comparison of two models within the machine’s graphical user interface. After ‘matching’, the operator instantly receives an evaluation of the quality of the products and any deviation from the desired values.
Mr Schurius said: “European companies cannot compete in mass production industries, they need to be different to be successful. Each week, we sit down in our headquarters in Germany to discuss suggested new developments, and most of the ideas and suggestions come from our customer base.
“The technical solutions to tool manufacture on show at Walter Ewag UK’s Open House typify the level of sophistication that is increasingly being demanded by European tool manufacturers and regrinders to enable them to compete and be cost-effective.”
