MACH 2016Sliding-head lathes were certainly pulling the crowds, as John McBride — general manager of Tornos’s UK subsidiary (
www.tornos.co.uk) —confirms. “From a monetary perspective, MACH 2016 was one of the best shows on record for Tornos UK, as we sold a number of high-value machines during the week. We had three machines on the stand — a Swiss ST26 turning centre, a CT20 turning centre and a Swiss Nano, with which we had considerable success.”
In particular, it was the cost-effective entry-level CT20 that attracted people onto the Tornos stand. This 20mm-capacity sliding-head machine has five linear axes, a C axis on both the main spindle and the counter-spindle, and two completely independent tool systems, giving it a high level of flexibility.
The machines were demonstrated in conjunction with Tornos’s latest version of TISIS software. Designed for use with all the manufacturer’s machines, this encompasses both programming and machine management and conforms to Industry 4.0.
