Solid-carbide Titan-Drill at MACH 2016

Solid-carbide Titan-Drill at MACH 2016MACH 2016One of the highlights on the stand of Rugby-based Mapal Ltd (www.mapal.com) was the new solid-carbide Titan-Drill — a three-flute drill that has been designed to provide enhanced tool life and lower tool costs while allowing the use of higher feed rates and higher cutting data, when compared with two-flute alternatives.

Furthermore, the three-flute design is said to significantly improve hole concentricity, thanks to the drill’s self-centring capabilities.

Alongside the Titan-Drill was the QTD indexable-insert drill, in which the drill body is produced using a laser sintering additive-manufacturing process that allows the design of the coolant holes to be optimised for maximum flow rates, while at the same time maximising the strength of the core of the drill to improve tool life, rigidity
and overall machining performance.
