MG to invest in Longbridge facilitiesMG Motor UK is to spend £1.2 million improving its Longbridge production facilities. This will involve installing a fifth engine-test facility and enhancing the on-site vehicle rolling road.

MG said that this will significantly boost the site’s test and development capabilities. For example, most emissions testing on a rolling road has been out-sourced, but engineers will now be able to carry out the required tests in a temperature-controlled environment with full measurement capability. They will also benefit from having the technical centre on-site for continuous product development.

James Scott, powertrain test manager, said: “The money that’s being invested in this new testing facility shows a real commitment to the future of MG. The additional test cell and enhanced rolling road will allow us to get the very best performance and economy out of MG products.”

MG also recently announced an expansion to the design team at Longbridge, following the successful UK launch of
the company’s new SUV — the MG GS.

Matthew Cheyne, MG’s head of sales and marketing, said: “It’s great to see the company taking even more strides forward, both in sales and engineering developments for the future.”
