Henley-on-Thames-based Engis (UK) Ltd (
www.engis.com) is now offering a complete range of helical lapping solutions.
These include standard and special ID and OD lapping tools said to be capable of producing mirror-like surface finishes with ‘superior geometry’.
In addition to hand lapping, Engis helical laps can also be used on lathes, mills, drill presses and hand drills without the need for elaborate set-ups. Target sectors include aerospace, ultra-precision machining, hydraulic components and diesel engine re-manufacturing.
If required, Engis can also create bespoke tools to suit specific requirements, including step laps, tandem laps, long tools, adjustable arbors and reverse-tapered arbors.
The company says that lap hardness has been engineered to provide a combination of fast stock removal and fine surface finish, while the proprietary cast-iron lapping-tool formulation allows for expansion and contraction of the tool without breakage.
Furthermore, a uniform grain structure enhances its ability to consistently embed and hold abrasive particles in the lap.
The products offered as part of the Engis helical lapping range include internal helical slot laps, arbors and expanders, external laps and lap holders and hand lapping plates, plus special-application lapping tools and abrasives.
