Magna International (
www.magna.com) officially opened its new aluminium casting facility in Telford last month to supply automotive aluminium products to Jaguar Land Rover.
Built in the name of its Cosma subsidiary, the 225,000ft
2 facility at Stafford Park will eventually create 300 jobs. Ben Goater, general manager of Cosma Castings UK (CCUK), said: “Cosma’s patented vacuum casting process — High-Q-Cast — was added to the company’s portfolio in 2012.
“Since then, Cosma has continually grown its casting engineering and manufacturing presence globally.”
Councillor Shaun Davies, the leader of Telford & Wrekin Council, said the region fought off strong competition — including from abroad — to secure the plant.
He said: “This is the single biggest foreign investment deal in the region in the last 10 years; anybody who goes into Telford town centre can see this huge factory on the horizon.
“It will initially be making lightweight parts for Jaguar Land Rover, and one of the things we did as a council is future-proof the site, so if Magna wins other contracts, it can expand here.”
