Embraer sets transatlantic speed recordAn Embraer (www.embraer.com) Legacy 450 medium-cabin business jet set a new speed record on a recent flight between Portland (Maine) in the USA and Farnborough in the UK, according to the US National Aeronautic Association (NAA).

The record-setting flight was made with two pilots and two passengers on a ‘ferry flight ’of Embraer’s new Legacy 450 demonstrator aircraft, which made its debut at the end of last month in Geneva.

The flight lasted 6hr 5min, covering 5,105km at an average speed of 521.89mph.

The aircraft can operate at up to Mach 0.83 and has an altitude ceiling of 45,000ft.

Meanwhile, Embraer has announced a new purchase agreement with Air Hamburg for four more Legacy 650E business jets. With this additional order, the Germany-based business charter operator, which serves European, Russian and Middle East destinations, will expand its Embraer fleet to 17 aircraft (15 Legacy 600/650 and two Phenom 300).

Air Hamburg is the world’s largest operator of the Legacy 600/650 aircraft models.

The delivery of these aircraft is expected to be made quarterly, through to the first quarter of 2019.

The contract has a value of $103.6 million, based on current list prices.
