Barrett Steel happy to help outBarrett Steel Ltd (www.barrettsteel.com) has got behind a local secondary school that approached it for help after introducing a brand-new engineering course for GCSE students.

Jason Brister — head of art, design and technology at Sir John Nelthorpe School in Brigg, North Lincolnshire — asked local companies for charitable donations of steel, copper, brass or aluminium offcuts.

As a result, Kass Steel Stockholders — Barrett Steel’s depot in Scunthorpe — invited school staff to visit and examine some suitable pieces for their project needs.

Mr Brister said: “We are confident that Kass’s input will have a positive impact on our students’ learning. We have fought for two years for engineering to be included in the curriculum, so this support is invaluable to help our engineers of the future.”

Tom Barrett, commercial director of Barrett Steel, said: “STEM subjects are the core of our business and our customers’.

Anything we can do to assist the skill-set of our local communities is fundamental to the industry’s advancement.” The company has 27 depots nation-wide (including Northern Ireland and Scotland), and it aims to support similar courses and initiatives where it can.
