A US electronics company is creating 130 jobs after announcing a £9 million expansion. Plexus made the decision at the beginning of December to move its Livingston design centre to larger premises at Bathgate, where it will also open a manufacturing facility to complement an existing one in Kelso and will be a European centre of excellence for prototyping. The new site is expected to be fully operational by February.
First Minister Alex Salmond said the investment, backed by £1 million of support from Scottish Enterprise, was “very welcome. The news that this international firm is stepping up its Scottish operations is testament to the quality and skills of the West Lothian workforce. This reinforces Scotland’s reputation for excellence in innovation and manufacturing.”
Steve Frisch, regional president at Plexus, said increasing demand from customers was fuelling the expansion of its UK operations, which design and manufacture components for the communications, aerospace and life-sciences sectors.
“The new facilities include a 15,500 sq. ft. design centre, which will also incorporate a regional office for the members of the Plexus European leadership team that are based in the UK. The design centre expansion will allow for the growth of our engineering team, increasing our design capabilities as well as enhancing our Product Realization Solutions for our UK customer base," he said.
