France to invest 71 billion euros for renewablesPresident Emmanuel Macron has outlined plans for France to invest 71 billion euros to boost its renewable-energy capacity over the next 10 years.

The country’s photo-voltaic capacity will increase eight-fold to 40GW, while onshore wind will more than double to 35GW by 2028.

France will also add another 2.5GW of offshore wind to the 3GW currently planned.

These plans still need to pass through several legal stages, but they are likely to be rubber-stamped by the summer of 2019.

There is a target to reduce nuclear’s share of France’s energy generation share from 75% currently to 50% by 2035, with between four and six nuclear reactors shut down by 2028.
