Mills CNC, Leamington Spa
(www.millscnc.co.uk) — the exclusive distributor of Doosan machine tools in the UK and Ireland — has strengthened its in-house parts operation by increasing its stock of commonly held Doosan spare and replacement parts, increasing the floor space dedicated to parts storage, retrieval and distribution, and investing in new piece-picking ‘carousel’ technology.
With an installed base of over 4,000 customers — a number that is rising significantly year-on-year — the company has recently strengthened its spare and replacement parts operation, making it more effective, more efficient and better able to meet the demands of customers. Mills CNC’s parts manager Mat Cooper says: “Owing to the phenomenal growth experienced over the last two or three years and the subsequent increase in our installed base, we recognised that we needed further investment in this area of our business.”
A combination of re-organisation and investment has allowed Mills CNC to release some 9,000ft
2 for parts storage, and the company now holds Doosan OE parts worth over £1.3 million. “When customers need a spare or replacement part for their machine, they want it immediately. To meet this expectation, we carry high levels of stock, ready to be dispatched at a moment’s notice for either same-day or next-day delivery.
We have also invested in fast and efficient piece-picking ‘carousel’ technology to speed up the process.”
Mills CNC’s parts operation is managed by three full-time members of staff, who also manage the ordering and supply of ancillary (third-party) equipment such as bar feeders, fourth- and fifth-axis units, and mist extraction.
