Further investment planned at IAMP Sunderland

Further investment planned at IAMP SunderlandPlans have been submitted for a second manufacturing building on the North East’s £400 million International Advanced Manufacturing Park (IAMP).

If approved, the development will consist of a 131,891ft2 facility — almost the size of two football pitches — on land north of Nissan.

The scheme will comprise a factory floor and nearly 11,000ft2 of office space on ‘plot 4’ of the park. IAMP (www.iampnortheast.co.uk) is being ‘delivered’ by a partnership between Sunderland City Council, South Tyneside Council and developer Henry Boot.

The first tenant is due to move in this summer. SNOP, a French car parts company, is creating a £15 million manufacturing facility with over 100 employees.

South Tyneside Council Leader Iain Malcolm said: “We have always been very confident in IAMP’s ability to attract significant investment, because it really is a special site.

“It has the potential to transform the region’s economy, creating many thousands of jobs for generations to come.”

Councillor Graeme Miller, Sunderland City Council Leader, said: “IAMP will capitalise on the North East’s strengths in advanced manufacturing, and cultivate a diverse base of businesses, spanning aerospace, rail, automation and offshore among others.

"The unique proposition that IAMP offers gives us a high level of confidence in the contribution it can make to the North East economy and to UK manufacturing at large.”
