Leeds manufacturer wins £160,000 Brazil orderLeeds-based Saftronics (www.saftronics.co.uk), a specialist manufacturing company, has won a £160,000 contract from Brazil to provide two motor control centres (MCCs) for vessels used in the oil industry (and is in discussions to supply more).

The customer has a 12-strong fleet of FPSOs (floating production storage and off-loading vessels) that need to be fitted with new MCCs, so this could lead to a total order of £1.9 million.

The export of the MCCs was achieved with the assistance of Bradford-based overseas trade specialist Chamber International.

Paul Stead, head of sales and marketing at Saftronics (www.saftronics.co.uk), said: “Our export market has suffered since the downturn in the oil and gas sector.

"While we have successfully concentrated our sales efforts in the UK, this latest success in Brazil proves that we can still win top-quality business world-wide.

"From our initial meeting, Chamber International fully understood our specialist requirements. Its professional support and continued contact has given us confidence that we should not be apprehensive about exporting.”

Chamber International director Tim Bailey said: “Saftronics is another example of a Yorkshire-based, world-class specialist manufacturer that is setting a fabulous example to other businesses who consider exporting to be too great a challenge.”
