Stadtwerke München (SWM) has ordered 73 additional Avenio trams (worth more than 200 million euros) from Siemens
Mobility (

Delivery of the first vehicles is planned for 2021.
Ingo Wortmann, managing director (mobility) at SWM, said: “The Avenio has such a good track record that we are continuing to rely on this vehicle type.
“The new trams will enable us to make further improvements in the existing network and operate new routes. Trams offer the ideal capacity between buses and subways.
"Moreover, as a pioneer in electric mobility, they have been operating purely electrically for over 120 years, effectively contributing to air pollution control in Munich.”
The four-module trams will operate throughout the Munich tram network. They provide space for around 218 passengers.
The carriage body is based on a welded steel frame, and the entire body shell is given a ‘cathodic dip painting’ to provide optimal protection against corrosion.
