Yorkshire-based ProSpool Ltd, a contract spool-winding specialist, has invested £500,000 in a custom-built winding machine for its Yeadon factory, paving the way for future growth.
The installation of this machine represents the end of the first phase of a three-year capital investment programme.
Since its formation in 1994, ProSpool has achieved consistent growth to reach its current position as the largest specialist spooling contractor in Europe, maintaining a core customer base while also diversifying into the security, automotive, health and hygiene, construction and food-packaging markets.
The company’s custom spooling lines can produce spool widths ranging from 2 to 76mm, and its production teams operate 24hr a day, five days a week.
The investment in the bespoke 26-station winder will increase capacity by 25% at a time when ProSpool is winning contracts from new customers, including US-based Berry Global and Japan-based Nitto.
Managing director Richard Hobson (

“We receive a huge range of materials in a variety of formats each week, and our job is to cut them to the desired width and wind them onto industrial spools, delivering them back to customers to be loaded onto high-speed production lines.
“We provide complete traceability, and every spool has a unique output label, detailing the component parts of the spooled material it holds.”
