MTU Aero Engines (
www.mtu.de), Germany’s leading aircraft engine manufacturer, has built a new test centre for engine parts at its Munich facility, investing more than 25 million euros in a new building and cutting-edge testing equipment.
The company is a technological leader in low-pressure turbines, high-pressure compressors and turbine centre frames, as well as manufacturing processes and repair techniques.
After two years of construction, the test centre was officially opened by Bavaria’s minister for digital affairs (Judith Gerlach) and MTU’s COO (Lars Wagner) in a ceremony attended by around 100 guests from business, politics and science, as well as company staff.
Mr Wagner said: “MTU is renowned world-wide for its unique testing expertise. In our new test centre, we will be testing parts that make up compressors and turbines, — blades and vanes, disks, casings, rings, and tubing.”
Jörg Henne, MTU’s senior vice-president (engineering and technology), said: “We have built up the testing capacities that we need for our current engine programmes, while also bearing our future requirements in mind.”
Over the last few years, MTU has invested more than 100 million euros in its Munich plant and built a new blisk production shop, a new logistics centre and a final assembly line for geared turbofan engines.
