Steve Shickell has been appointed sales and marketing director (UK and Ireland) by Castle Donington-based LK Metrology — a leading British manufacturer and exporter of co-ordinate measuring machines (CMMs).
The company (
www.lkmetrology.com) also develops associated programming and control software for tactile and 3-D laser inspection, designed to “raise efficiency in the inspection department, improve the quality of data collected, reduce measuring cycle times and accelerate time to market for new products”.
With nearly 30 years’ experience of working in the metrology sector, Mr Shickell started his career in the manufacturing industry, first with British Aerospace as a tool-room machinist, then at BAE Systems (Chester) as a metrology engineer, and afterwards at Airbus UK (Broughton), where he was tool-room team leader — responsible
for the delivery and operation of jigs, tools, fixtures and metrology equipment.
Since then, he has worked for a number of leading metrology equipment suppliers, delivering high-value inspection solutions to the automotive, aerospace, power generation, medical and precision-engineering sectors.
He has a Professional Diploma in Manufacturing from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST), and he was chairman of metrology (measurement equipment) at the Gauge and Tool Makers Association (GTMA) between October 2013 and March 2016.
