Slough-based FHS Motor Racing Ltd is a global leader in the manufacture of high-performance fluid delivery systems, used mainly in Formula One and World Rally series.
The motor-sport industry strives for zero non-compliance; like other key areas such as marine and defence, it demands a combination of high reliability and high performance, and precise inspection of each part is critical.
In order to meet these demands, dimensional precision is a key attribute, together with surface finish, so FHS recently replaced its existing metrology equipment with a Starrett (
www.starrett.co.uk) AVR300 multi-sensor co-ordinate measuring system.
FHS manager Jay Salter said: “The new system is effective for applications as simple as the measurement of O rings and washers, and complex CNC five-axis couplings.
“It is an excellent piece of kit that we use daily.”
The addition of a non-contact sensor supports the precise measurement of flexible and ‘tactile’ products, while a Renishaw probe can be added for complex and rigid 3-D assemblies.
