Black cabs heading for TokyoCoventry-based London Electric Vehicle Co (LEVC) launched its electric TX model in Tokyo earlier this month.

The new vehicle is a purpose-built high-quality model suitable for both the taxi and premium shuttle markets, with ample space for six passengers and wheelchair access.

It combines more than 130km of zero-emissions electric range with the flexibility of a total electrically driven range of 600km — made possible by its on-board range-extender.

LEVC CEO Joerg Hofman (www.levc.com) said: “We are reinventing a British icon, transforming the company from a traditional taxi manufacturer to a green mobility company, and producing a wider range of electric commercial vehicles.

“The electric TX will set new standards across Japan in the taxi and premium shuttle market.”

Yokohama-based Fleetway and Service Co has been selected as the official importer and retailer of LEVC models. The order books open in February, and customer deliveries are due to begin in the second quarter of 2020.

LEVC’s range will grow further in 2020, with the launch of a new electric van based on the TX Taxi.

By 2022, the company expects that 60% of the vehicles built at its Coventry factory will be for export, while the remaining 40% will operate in the UK.
