Dubai solar contract awardedHayward Tyler — a global leader in performance-critical pumps and motors for the energy sector — has been awarded a multi-million-dollar contract to supply a glandless pump package to Shanghai Electric (Group) Corp.

It will be installed at Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park Phase IV — a 950MW concentrating solar power (CSP) and photo-voltaic (PV) hybrid.

The project will use three different technologies to generate clean energy: 600MW from a parabolic basin complex, 100MW from a solar tower, and 250MW from PV panels.

The project, which is acknowledged as being the world’s largest investment project using CSP at a single location, is designed to support the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, which aims to increase Dubai’s use of clean energy to 75% of its total energy mix by 2050.

Alvin Sim, managing director of Hayward Tyler Asia Pacific (www.haywardtyler.com), said: “This contract represents a major opportunity for Hayward Tyler, and the largest ever for our China facility.

"We are pleased that Shanghai Electric (Group) Corp has recognised that Hayward Tyler Glandless Pumps will provide the best solutions for these critical services, where safety and reliability are of utmost importance.”

Hayward Tyler’s glandless pump packages will be a critical part of the solar tower steam generator system and consist of six forced-circulating pumps and four start-circulating pumps.

The pumps will serve the 100MW CSP Tower.

As the inventor of glandless boiler circulating pumps, Hayward Tyler has supplied more than 300 pumps of this type to Shanghai Electrical Group over the past three decades.
