West Yorkshire-based Produmax (
www.produmax.co.uk), a high precision engineering specialist, has switched to making parts for ventilators to help the nation-wide fight against coronavirus.
The ventilators have been designed, tested and approved in record time by the VentilatorChallengeUK consortium, and the Government has issued formal orders in excess of 10,000 ventilator units so far.
The company has adopted a split-shift system to work around the clock and maximise production at its factory in Shipley.
Produmax will have fully switched to making ventilator parts over the next few weeks, and more than 60,000 brass, steel and plastic components will make their way on to the air flow control units of Penlon and Smiths Medical ventilators.
Mandy Ridyard, Produmax financial director said “We’re proud to be part of this vital fight against COVID-19.
“We’d like to thank our fantastic team of engineering superheroes for taking up this challenge to help save lives.”
The VentilatorChallengeUK consortium comprises: Airbus, GKN Aerospace, BAE Systems, Ford, HVM Catapult, Inspiration Healthcare, Meggit, Microsoft, Penlon, Renishaw, Rolls-Royce, Siemens, Smiths Group, Thales Ultra Electronics, Unilever and UK-based Formula One teams (Haas Racing, McLaren, Mercedes, Racing Point, Red Bull Racing, Renault Sport Racing, Williams Racing and Williams Engineering).
