Rubix acquires Advanced Industrial Rewinds Rubix, Europe’s largest supplier of industrial maintenance, repair and overhaul products and services, has acquired the business and assets of Advanced Industrial Rewinds (AIR), a specialist electrical motor repair company based in Durham.

Established over a decade ago, AIR provides expertise in the rewind, refurbishment and mechanical repair of electrical motors. The company operates from 4,000ft2 ‘state of the art’ facility and its specialist engineers have over 40 years of experience, not only in electrical motor rewinds and repairs, but also gearbox, pump and fan repairs, transformer brake and clutch coil repairs, supply of new motors, drives, pumps and gearboxes.

Its commitment to value and quality are backed up by a 12-month warranty on all its work. In addition, AIR offers mechanical services such as machine work and site services for its manufacturing customers.

AIR will continue to operate independently but will enhance the Rubix’s technical capabilities, particularly in the North East of England, extending its geographic footprint for these services by supplementing the company’s existing engineering repair centres based in Southampton, Maidstone, Newport, Leeds, Wolverhampton and Uddingston.

John Lydon, newly appointed AIR general manager, said: “This is an exciting time for AIR. Becoming part of the Rubix Group confirms our position as the leading supplier for our engineering services in this part of the country while also recognising the substantial future demand for our expertise and skills.

“We also see this as a highly attractive proposition for our team in being able to offer our expert help to the Rubix manufacturing customer base, particularly in this region.”

Mr Lydon and his management team will lead AIR and report to Peter Burrows, head of engineering at Rubix.

Mr Burrows said: “This acquisition represents a coming together of two businesses which share a ‘value first’ approach and a commitment to the highest quality of service.

“AIR’s highly skilled engineers offer repair, bespoke manufacturing of extended shafts and motors, and specialist expertise which extends our portfolio of repair services geographically, giving us a strong presence for these services in the North East while supplementing the UK business resources nationally.”
