Schuler recently upgraded eight production lines to manufacture electrical motor laminations at
Siemens’ Nuremberg plant.
This involves three presses and five automatic notchers from Schuler and Müller Weingarten, which now feature both a production monitor and a press force monitor. They can be used to remotely and continuously monitor the operating status and the press force curve of the machines.
Rohitashwa Pant, Schuler chief digital officer, said: “As the manufacturer of the presses, we have the necessary expertise to connect the machines to the Internet of Things.”
The data not only provides information about productivity in the press shop but can also indicate damage that may be imminent — avoiding unplanned downtime. The data is transmitted via a secure connection to Schuler’s data centre, where it is processed and visualised in easy-to-read graphics.
Among the products produced at Siemens’ machinery and equipment plant in Nuremberg are drives that are used in the mining and marine sectors.
