Sandvik Coromant is sponsoring the Education and Development (E&D) zone at this week’s
MACH 2022 (Hall 17, Stand 460) at the NEC, Birmingham (4-8 April). This year marks the fifth time that Sandvik Coromant has sponsored the zone, reinforcing the company’s efforts in helping to close the engineering skills gap.
The E&D zone is the educational hub of the event, where apprentices and students are provided with hands-on engineering activities, educational seminars and guided tours of the exhibition. The zone is an integral part of encouraging young people to visit
MACH and the various co-located shows at the NEC during the same week — the
Engineering Supply Chain Show,
Plant & Asset Management,
Air-Tech,
Drives & Controls and the
Smart Industry Expo.
The engineering skills shortage in the UK is well documented. Over 50% of engineering firms find it difficult to recruit and retain staff and the UK Government is investing millions of pounds into science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) education. Exposing young people to the engineering sector and the potential career paths in engineering is a crucial method of building a pipeline of future engineers and the E&D zone at
MACH is designed to support these Government efforts.
Potential career pathsA crucial part of the E&D zone is guided tours of the exhibition. As part of these tours, students will learn more about the latest engineering technologies being developed and deployed in the UK and learn about potential career paths. The E&D zone even provides guidance on the wide range of engineering companies that are recruiting UK apprentices.
Kim Olander, Sandvik Coromant marketing manager for the UK and Ireland, said: “Sandvik Coromant understands the importance of encouraging more young talent into engineering. We will be joined on the stand by exhibitors from Airbus Defence and Space, F1 in Schools, the University of Wolverhampton Racing Team and many others to demonstrate the breadth of opportunities available within engineering.”
Schools and students are encouraged to register their interest in attending the E&D zone in advance on the
MACH website. Likewise, parents and guardians are welcomed to register interest to attend the show — students aged between 11 and 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
